Tradie insurance, Australia-wide
Whether you work on your own or run a small crew, your insurance needs to keep up with the jobs you take on. We're a general insurance broker arranging tradie insurance for sole traders and small trade businesses right across Australia.
We look at what you do and what your clients and head contractors ask for, then compare options from a range of insurers.
Types of tradie insurance
Public liability
The cover most tradies are asked about first. It can respond if someone is injured, or their property is damaged, because of your work. Many builders, property managers and commercial clients will not let you on site without a current certificate of currency. See our public liability page.
Tools and portable equipment
Your tools are your income. Tool cover (often called portable equipment or general property cover) can protect tools against theft and damage, including from your ute, van or job site, depending on the policy. Check how theft from an unattended vehicle is treated, as conditions vary.
Commercial motor vehicle
Utes, vans and trucks used for work should be insured for business use, including fitted racking and toolboxes where available. For larger fleets, see our transport and logistics page.
Personal accident and illness
Can pay a weekly benefit if you cannot work because of an injury or illness, subject to the policy terms and waiting periods.
Contract works
If you build, renovate or carry out structural work, contract works can cover the works while under construction. See our construction insurance page.
Other covers
Professional indemnity (for trades that give design advice or certify work), management liability, premises cover for a workshop or yard, or business interruption. See our business insurance page.

Why tradies use a broker
Buying online is quick, but it's easy to pick the wrong occupation or limit. When you work with us, we:
- Ask the right questions about your trade, turnover, subcontractors and the type of sites you work on
- Check what your head contracts or clients require, such as minimum liability limits or interested party notations
- Compare options across insurers rather than offering a single product
- Issue certificates of currency when you need them for a new job
- Help you through the claims process if something goes wrong, and review your cover each year as you grow
Frequently asked questions
Is public liability insurance compulsory for tradies?
It isn't compulsory for every trade under general law, but many licensing bodies, builders, councils, property managers and commercial clients require it before you start work. In practice, most tradies need it to win work. We can help you check what your contracts and licence require.
How much public liability cover do I need?
That depends on your trade and the contracts you work under. Many head contractors and commercial sites specify a minimum limit in their contract. We'll check your requirements and suggest a limit that meets them.
Are my tools covered if they're stolen from my ute overnight?
It depends on the policy. Some insurers cover theft from a locked vehicle with visible signs of forced entry; others have conditions about where the vehicle is parked or require tools to be in a locked toolbox. We'll explain the conditions before you buy.
Can you get me a certificate of currency quickly?
Yes. Once your policy is in place, we can issue a certificate of currency for new jobs or head contractors, including any interested party notations your contract requires.
Where do you insure tradies?
Australia-wide. Our clients deal with us by phone and email, wherever they are based.
Does public liability cover faulty workmanship?
Generally no. Public liability covers injury or damage you cause to others, but usually not the cost of fixing or redoing your own work. We can explain where the line falls in your policy.
Can I insure my ute and my tools together?
Yes. Commercial motor covers the vehicle, and portable tools cover can sit in a business pack or a separate policy. We can arrange both and line up renewal dates.
I'm a sole trader. What cover should I start with?
Most sole traders start with public liability and tools cover. Depending on your trade, you may also consider income protection, commercial motor and professional indemnity for design or advice work.
Can I pay my premium monthly?
Many insurers and premium funding providers offer monthly instalments. Interest or fees may apply, so we explain the options before you choose.
What happens if I add a new trade or service?
Tell us before you start. Policies are based on the work you declare, and new activities may not be covered until the insurer agrees.
